Hurricanes of Happiness

A blog by Spurthi Alluri

Diwali’s here again.

Another day of the year, as I wake up and rise,

I see yet another gift from dad, catching me by surprise.

Mom’s cooking makes the house smell so sweet,

And you have a long list of people to greet.

This special day will make you go down the memory lane,

Cause yet again, Diwali is here again.

Back to when we were kids, when crackers were fun,

Roaming the streets with in your hand, a toy gun.

The ones bursting the loudest bombs were the bravest,

And the ones who couldn’t at all were the lamest.

As you grow old, you grow out of those as well,

Now I’m just praying my dog’s ears don’t swell.

Diwali’s not much the same as the main,

But yet, Diwali’s here again.

Seeing your family brings out your inner happiness,

Grandparents all congratulating you on your success.

Maybe there’ll be a cake for your brother who did well in his test,

Or maybe you’re craving for your Aunt’s sweets and the rest.

With your cousins you’ll wait for the big dinner that’s overdue,

Hoping for poori and chicken to be on the menu.

You’ll watch your mom become a kid around her cousins,

And watch your dad light up, experimenting his new camera lens.

Maybe there’s no reason behind Diwali at all,

Maybe its just another excuse to stay happy with all.

So here’s wishing you many more excuses to stay happy and keep away the pain,

Cause of course this year, Diwali’s here again.

Happy Diwali. Lots of love. ❤

Life at GNITS: Exam Days

Here at GNITS, internal exams have been going on since Monday. Let me give you a quick shot of how the college atmosphere is at this particular time of the year.

Morning scenarios include groups of girls scattered all over the open lawns, the lawn benches, the road pavements and even the basketball court. Late Starters – trying to complete at least one unit on time; Students who have lost hope– who know nothing and have completely given up on reading; Class Smarties– who have finished their portion but still trying to learn more; Last-minute Workers– who loiter around till the last minute when they realize they haven’t studied enough yet ; The Askers– who keep asking people to explain something cause they’re too lazy to read themselves;and the teachers(Not actual faculty 😛 ) – the ones who explain whatever they know to others with some hope that they’d remember the concept better themselves – all the different kinds of people you’d find in these scatters 😛

morning

In the afternoons you can see more groups of students who have exam in the afternoon session. Girls with textbooks in their laps and lunchboxes in their hands, not wasting a single minute of study. Girls trying so hard to concentrate that they start reading out real loud, plugging their ears from unwanted noise, or start walking around the basketball court with books in one hand, and drawing imaginary figures in the air with another.

Afternoon

Evenings are a lot more calmer, now that everyone’s done with their exam for the day. The only place of happening would be the xerox shop- jam packed with students desperate for notes for their next exam. Exam time is the one time where the xerox-shop owner earns like crazy.

xerox

But no matter what day it may be – exam or no exam – you will find the basketball team playing at the court from 3:30 😀

Well, hope you GNITS girls did your exams good so far and wishing you good luck for your remaining ones. 🙂

Food Frenzy : Chicken Sizzler

One common trait of all you Hyderabadis out there is love for food. Be it a plate of Biryani, bowl of haleem or a platter of payasam, we Hyderabadis enjoy it all. So for all you foodaholics out there, here’s one dish that really left my tummy satisfied- Spicy Chicken Sizzler at Beach House-Bar and Grill, Madhapur. Though the dish isn’t actually “spicy”, the taste levels of it was off boundaries. The sizzler includes grilled chicken steak with a small serving of flavored rice, and a side of french fries and boiled vegetables swimming in boiling hot gravy. The rustic presentation complements the savory dish as well. It will certainly leave you wanting more!

Chicken sizzler  Overall, Beach House is a great place to hang out with friends. The ambiance of the place is spot on. Price of each item is pretty reasonable. And obviously quality and taste is unquestionable. So for those of you who have visited the place, hopefully you agree with me. 😛 And for those who haven’t, make sure you do check it out.

Happy hogging. 🙂

Cupcake stall

Today at the Ignium fest at GNITS, we put up a cupcake stall called “Two broke girls”. For days we’ve been doubting the sale of cupcakes at our college but shockingly the whole batch of cupcakes baked were sold within an hour. XD

Look’s like Hasita’s efforts didn’t go waste.

Here’s a picture of the cupcakes in display :

Two Broke Girls.

Haha yes it’s a show. A hilarious one in fact! The first thing that pops up into my mind is “Max’s homemade cupcakes” . 😛

Well this Ignium technical fest at GNITS, Hasita is putting up a cupcake stall and we decided to call it “Two Broke Girls”. XD

We’re putting up two kinds- Vanilla cupcakes and Rainbow ones. To all you GNITS girls out there and to others who are attending the fest, do come and try them out.

Let me enclose some pictures with hopes of tempting you. 😛

GECFEST’15

GECFEST is a state-wide fest conducted at Gudlavalleru Engineering College, Gudlavalleru, A.P. The fest includes all sorts of technical, cultural, literary and sports programs. This three-day fest is always worth the travel and not to forget the treacherous heat and humidity of the village. In spite of being of a rural area, the college is up to the mark with every event they host which makes it a remarkable fest to attend. Students and staff of GEC clearly put their efforts into making this fest a success.

Coming to the sports part, the events Basketball, Volleyball, Table tennis and Tennis have been conducted for both men and women. Regarding the participation of GNITS teams, Basketball, volleyball and table tennis winners titles were bagged by our teams. The basketball team has won the rolling trophy for the second time in a row, and we can call it our own once we win it for the third time next year. The volleyball team showed one amazing final, as the opponent GEC was equally good. All the GEC students were rooting for their team but our girls just had to win. 😛

Well, in short this is one tournament we wait for every single year. And we hope it would be as memorable and satisfying in the upcoming years.

Here’s a picture of the trophy haul.

Our GNITS.

Here’s a poem I wrote last month, which was recited at the valedictory of Verve.

Our GNITS sports people are unlike the rest.
So let me tell about them on this day of the fest.

Our TT players are quick and smart,
they not only play with their hands, but also with their heart

Our badminton girls never give up,
They work hard to bring home the winning cup.

Our kho-kho players run in a blink,
They’ll never let our college ship sink.

Our throwball team is strong and agile,
They win every match with a smile.

Our volleyball team will go that extra mile,
to increase the trophies in our pile.

Our basketball team won’t go down without a fight,
They put in their every bit of strength and might.

Behind all these successful players is one woman,
Her spirit and determination in uncommon.

Everyone admires her charm,
She is none other than our Suryakumari ma’am.

In the end I’d like to say whole heartedly,
there is no family better than the GNITS Sports family.

GNITS teams at Verve’15.

Artista’s first event.

After a lot of wait and effort from our members, GNITS now has its very own Arts Club- Artista. Artista held it’s first event, which was a four-day gallery of art works done by the students of GNITS, called Galleria held on 26th-29th January,2015. This event brought out some surprisingly exceptional talent of our students. The exhibit displayed a variety of artworks including oil paintings, glass paintings, pencil sketches, paper models, clay models, and also miniature art work on chalk pieces. Initially the exhibit was meant to last for two days, but the tremendous response from both staff and students alike made us extend Galleria two days further.

Here’s a picture of the entrance of the gallery.

And here are a few oil paintings done by our member, Soumya, which left everyone awe-struck.

VJIT Tournament, 2015

The VJIT sports fest was held on 23rd and 24th of January 2015. And yes, our GNITS teams just had to participate. Unsurprisingly, our Throw ball team won first place. Our basketball team won the finals against CBIT with the final score being 15-0. The main reason for playing at this tournament was to give our junior players some exposure. And they did show their best. You juniors are giving us assurance for next year’s team.vjit Proud of you kids.! 😛  Sadly, I didn’t play this tournament but did come to cheer for our team. 😛

The highlight match of the day was the men’s semis between VNRVJIET and St.Martins. Both the teams generally play equally good but that day VNR team was above and beyond. It was great fun to watch the match, and they clearly had great fun playing it. VNR stood winners in Basketball-men.

So congrats to all the teams, and hoping to see many more amazing matches.
